President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the Minister of trade and industry to ensure that sugar manufactures and recently licensed importers not to sell sugar to politicians or any other individuals.
The directive, the president explained is meant to counter greedy speculators who charge exorbitant prices to consumers. In the directive, the president states that some politicians were importing sugar after arm-twisting manufacturers to allocate them sugar, which they then sell expensively. The order comes as sugar rationing at Super Markets continues and the price seems to have remained between shs5000 to shs7000. Josephine Karungi with the details.
