Hmm, I wanna like 7, but it looks like it's going the Mac route (as Vista started to do). I don't like simplicity and big 'happy' icons. I like things to feel free and professional. Going simple and pretty is Mac's job. They lack customization options, which is the way 7 seems to be. Hopefully it's not so, but I'm not too sure. Regardless, PC all the way, even if I have to use XP forever.
You clearly haven't used Windows 7 very much if you think that it lacks customization. It offers more customization than any Windows EVER. If you want to go with a professional look, that's simple. If you don' like big icons, make them small. So Windows can compete with Mac on GUI (in my opinion beats), but it is still Windows. It's FAST, reliable, and has so many new features to improve efficiency. Surely a professional would welcome efficiency. I loved XP, then Vista, but W7 is hands down #1
Well, I know I haven't. But I've seen quite a bit of it, and it looks 'easy to use'. I don't like 'easy to use'. It caters to the people who don't know what they're doing. That's what a Mac is for. Making it look good (professional) is not as important as true customization, which it seems to lack. It seems like they simplified your overall OS customization, preventing you from making it work like you want it to.
It is 'easy to use'. However, I think that this is a good thing. Why would you prefer something be hard when it can be easy? That seems counterintuitive. Like I said, it is very customizable. What areas do you think it lacks in? The main difference between this and OS X is that it offers support for people who don't know what they're doing WITHOUT LIMITING your freedom. In other words, it's the best of both worlds. Improved GUI, performance, and features with the power of a true Windows machine.
Ehh, that's impossible. You either have to make it more customizable, or more accessible and fancy, unless you make it take up more RAM. It's a simple as that. Being an amateur coder myself, I know that you can't magically have both AND make it quicker and more efficient and STILL take up less RAM. You have to sacrifice one for the other, or else get more RAM... which I don't want to waste money on. Besides, new OS's always have bugs at first, so it's not smart to get them right away.
It's definitely not impossible. Especially if you compare Vista to W7. W7 uses up less RAM than Vista, while still providing new features and a better GUI. I noticed the difference firsthand when I upgraded, and you can read any review and find the same. I have heard that W7 might be slightly slower than XP on some machines. I haven't used XP in over a year so I can't really vouch for that. As far as bugs, I haven't really noticed any. I don't recall being forced to restart my computer due to a
crash once since getting W7 either. But when it comes to bugs it really seems to be on a computer by computer basis. However, the beta and RC of W7 was the biggest trial period in software history, so I think MS really tried getting it right this time. It's not right away- I've had it since May, and could have earlier. W7 will only gain more support as XP dies out. Perhaps you will wait, but you will end up with it eventually if you stay with MS so might as well start enjoying it now. Good luck
