Rare photos of the rooms inside Grey Gardens and the squalid conditions the Beales lived in before the raid in 1972 that threatened eviction from their home. There are before and after photos of the initial clean up in the 1970s and later photos of the renovation during the early 1980s after Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee and his wife, journalist Sally Quinn, bought the estate from Edie Beale in 1979. FOR YOU TYPO CRITICS: PLEASE FORGIVE THE MISSPELLED WORDS IN SOME OF THE SUBTITLES! I forgot to spell-check before completing and saving this video to my PC in order to upload to YouTube! By then it was too late and not worth the time to start the project over! Hope these errors do not distract from your overall enjoyment! ~ Thank you

  • Really moving to see that house go to hell and back. They could have knocked it down and built something vulgar.

  • @martisco I remember reading that Little Edie agreed to sell the house to the Bradley's back in 1979 on the condition that they would restore the house and not tear it down and rebuild. They honored her request!

  • many people are commenting on the style of the remodeling, being tacky, they

seem to forget, that was in 1985, and the tastes was normal for the time period

  • @nightstalkerck I made the same point many comments ago! I would hope the Bradelys have changed out some of the furniture since! Thanks for your comment

  • According to Wikipedia. Edie did outlive her brothers by 9 and 10 years. She also outlived Jackie Onassis as well. I assume she had little contact with her nephews and nieces. She died alone and was not found for five days and that was only due to a fan who had befriended her and had noticed she wasn't answering her phone.

  • @swoklahoma Yes, I remember reading this concerning herdeath in 2002 from a presumed heart attack at the age of 84. Sad really, but fortunate she at least had a fan that was concerned about her!

  • @keithholman2 i just read where someone posted she lost her hair due to a fire, perhaps the person did not know what they were talking aobut . . .

  • @RockMegaBarbie "You can't get any freedom when you're being supported."

    -Edith Bouvier Beale

  • @creolelady182 Not that increcible, they where just ladies from a different generation. No doubt they had servants originally...

  • Although Grey Gardens has been restored, all the money in the world could buy the class possessed by the Bouvier Beales. That belongs to a different era and died with Little Edie in 2002. :-(

  • Keep in mind guys. Little Edie had quite the life up to the early 1950' living in NYC.. I assume this was about the time the Father died and her Mother could no longer support her NYC lifestyle. Therefore, being unable to support herself..She had to move back home. In spite of her her artistic creativity, I do beleive Little Edie did have a slight mental quirk and I do think her Mother was only trying to keep her safe.
