A Cardassian suffering from Kalla-Nohra, a disease that indicates he served in a labor camp, visits DS9. Kira is determined to convict him as a war criminal.

The special guest actor in this episode (and in this clip), is Harris Yulin, here seen giving on of the best acting performances in all of Star Trek.

SPOILER ALERT (spoilers included beyond this text)
This clip is from a couple of minutes before the end of the episode. It's when Kira realizes that this man in fact IS who he claimed to be at the beginning of the episode. Yet for some reason (explained later on), he still pretends to be this other person, convicted of war crimes.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Season 1, Episode 19 "DUET"
(according to IMDb, this is episode 18. That, however, is not true)

The famous line, of Harris Yulin (if you can act out this line half as good as he could, you know you're a good actor/actress):
That's not true, I am alive. I will always be alive. It's Marritza who's dead. Marritza, who was good for nothing but cowering under his bunk, and weeping like a woman. Ha. Who would every night, cover his ears, because he couldn't bear to hear the screaming for mercy, from the Bajoran.

Cover my ears every night, I couldn't bear to hear those horrible screams. You have no idea what it's like to be a coward, ha. See these horrors, do nothing. Marritza's dead, he deserves to be dead.

  • I'm sorry but Darmok is a frustrating bore, perhaps the top 5 worst episodes in Trek history. Now "Duet" is def top 5. Absolutely riveting drama.

  • @manco82 let's agree to disagree, at least considering "Darmok". Now "Duel" I totally agree is def one of the best

  • I liked 'Darmok', but it's nowhere near the 'best' episode of TNG. Maybe best 10, and that's being generous. 'Duet' on the other hand is one of the best episodes of ALL Trek.

  • This and Chains of Command MADE the cardassians. I only really cared about them after watching those episodes.

  • @manco82 Seriously? You srious don't see the brilliance in te episode Darmok? And btw, if it wasn't for Darmok, the Picard song would have never been as awesome as it is

  • @MyRandomUploads Darmok? That has to be one of the WORST episodes.

  • As for 'classic' and 'amazing', I happen to disagree with both of those assessments.

  • I think you are mistaken. There are many episodes on Star Trek 'dot' com that have a higher rating (Darmok has only a 4.5 while the Visitor from DS9 has a 4.8, for example.) Can you provide a way to see the relevant site? I can't find such an official vote on that web site.

  • @jstrahan2 of course a lot of people a enclined to disagree, nomatter we're voting about. But not only is 'Darmok' an amazing episode, it's also a classic.

The reason it says "Officially voted" is because the vote of course took place at StarTrek dot com, the biggest Star Trek fan site on the web

  • A couple of things. The intro stated that it was voted the second best episode of DS9. 'Darmok' was, of course, from TNG. Second,...'Darmok'??!! Are you kidding? There are plenty of episodes better than that one. Where did this so-called vote come from?
