Skateboarding filming and competition is dominated by freestyle. Lost in all this attention is a racing strong tradition, still celebrated in fun events like this slalom comp in Bethel Connecticut. Another RadXSports video.

Freestyle dominates skateboarding, and has for years. When people think about the sport they think rails, pipes and tricks.

It wasn't always like that. Back in the 70s and 80s racing was the rage, and there are still people who remember the good old days.
VO Skateboard Slalom
Skateboarders have a reputation, whether deserved or not. They also have traditions, and one that has been in recession for longer than the economy is the slalom race.
Rick Floyd is a ranked pro racer.
Mig Marco was part of the French Canadian contingent who drove down from Quebec City for the action.
Louis (Lou-ee) Ricard put up the fastest time in the single slalom. It was just the start of French Canadian slalom supremacy.
The dual slalom ran in brackets, 2 runs per heat. Racers lost a tenth of a second for each cone they moved off its mark. Best combined time moved on to the next bracket.
The first B- Bracket semi final pitted two French Canadians going head to head down to the wire. Julie Boulanger and Leo Ojeda ran two heats that were too close to call at the finish line.
It was Ojeda who advanced to the finals, based on fewer cones moved.
American Adam Daniels ran two equally close heats against Ojeda. Daniels was the only American to take home top honors with a narrow, cone-count victory in the B-Brackets.
Joe McLaren advanced to the finals with Slalom champ Louis Ricard in the pro A-Bracket.
Picard was clean through the cones and well ahead of McLaren in the first heat.
The winners got a skateboard style chauffeured limo ride back to the top.
The results in hear 2 were the same, Ricard was the champion, but everyone who raced was a winner. The last word goes to the victorious. This time it's in French.
