Prof Rajiva is back on another grilling session... BBC hard talk hot seat. Prof. Rajiva defends Sri Lanka against war crime charges... countered with solid facts and arguments....Prof Rajiva Wijesinha, Adviser on Reconciliation to the President, responds on Hard Talk to hard questions about Sri Lanka.

In a wide-ranging interview with Stephen Sackur, Prof Wijesinha deals with questions about Sri Lanka raised by recent interventions by Channel 4 as well as a Panel on Accountability appointed by the UN Secretary General.
He talks about the similarities between the charges made, and the shifting claims, including the admission that the date originally alleged by Channel 4 was false. The Experts commissioned by the UN have also revealed that the video has been edited and sections transposed, though Channel 4, whilst citing the experts, will not admit to this themselves.

Further issues discussed include what seems the efforts of some Western politicians, in particular British ones, to cater to their electorates without thinking of the interests of Tamils in Sri Lanka. Issues regarding current efforts at reconciliation, and the need to move forward, were also raised.

  • Aug 20 (DM) 'UN will support Sri lanka to promote lasting peace'. The UN will increasingly look for opportunities to support the Government in promoting reconciliation which is key to ensuring a lasting and durable peace, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Subinay Nandy said yesterday marking the World Humanitarian Day. “Moving forward the UN will continue supporting the response to the remaining humanitarian needs in the country,” he said.

  • @eelamjoinindia - Mate when was the last time you visited N/ East SL, I assume either you are in India or somewhere else finding a case to live there permanently. I visited N/E and spoken to very people who you called living like animals, who now gathering brick and water and building the home where they can sleep fearlessly at night. Raising cattle, running a boutique. Living normal life like everyone else in the country.

Lets leave these people alone to build and live a life of there own.

  • good lier, tamils are still suffering under more than 150000 or more troop's atrocities and intimidation .they will be only freed when they got independent from government of Sri lanka tamils got the right to fight for that in front of international community like sudanese did in tha Sudan

  • Neither British nor Americans have a sympathy for Tamils, Both Tamils and Sinhaleese have to understand that. We should get together as Sri Lankans.
