@aporia82 They cannot be part of an organization that recognizes the genocide as a whole and still deny that 2.5 million of it's own minority population. People like my aunt (who was a resident of Smyrna) never existed. Turkey must come to terms with its past if it wishes to progress. The Germans (who assisted them) has come to terms with it.

@aporia82 Read it again. It says that the EU foreign ministers were set to discuss plans to invite Turkey into the EU. Mr. Barnier said Turkey MUST carry out this task (recognition of the genocide). The other article states that the recognition of the genocide are necessary steps for Turkey's accession into the EU. Turkey CANNOT have it's cake and eat it too.

@CSpanAddict1982 since you're are an american greek you should know what the meaning of "stressed and discussed". those are not facts, some EU foreign ministers and parliamentarians only "stressed and discussed" the issue. This recognition "is not" an actual part of Turkey's joining to EU, Turkey would never accept it. you're mistaken.
