Dick Cavett can never be thanked enough for this. Wonderful historical record of the last great Queen of the Blues!

In the biography written by Janis's publicist, Myra Friedman, she says Janis's mother was very proper. Janis got along better with her father, an engineer for Texaco, who was a little more easy going.

Probably at that time,a straight-laced God-fearing chuch-going mum who thought her daughter was going to hell and damnation with all the long haired hippie types she was hanging around with.
She was right but I don't think anyone could have changed Janis from the road she took.
But then ,for the short ime she was with us :) Didn't we enjoy her presence amongst us :)

asrudCHE,

No, in the biography of Janis "buried Alive' by Myra friedman she says that the joplins were athiests who only went to church in order to be excepted by the community they were most likely communists.. your supposition is incorrect.

Lighten up there "atfaw" I dont know anything about her parents or even care, all I knew was the girl could sing and she put her heart and soul into it. Doesn't matter to me whether it was an atheist soul or dedicated to the Church of Scientology.

THere's no one like her. There never will be. A talent, a voice, a bit of pure musical energy that will never be duplicated, and never, ever be forgotten.
