Still waiting, I see, for powmongo's invited video, in which he shows that the laws of physics don't apply to the powerclean.
-
I don't think it would hurt to teach a more full hip extension, later initiation of the second pull, and a faster drop under the bar as opposed to a literal jump.
-
@VastChoirs I think rippertoe's focus was developing strength, especially for beginners (thusly starting strength). I don't think rippertoe's focus was to teach someone how to be a top level oly lifter, but rather to stress proper form as a guide to increased strength.

@powmongo in russia, bar pulls you!

I learned the powerclean from Rippetoe's book and did them like this. It's not really optimal if you want to go into olympic lifting, notice the chick has almost no layback at the top of the 2nd pull, gets way too much air, and explodes too early. Going from this to a proper full clean was really hard, learning them like this I found myself getting too much air and racing the bar down to get under it.

What software did you use? I want to check my deadlift bar path.
-
For power clean yes. For regular clean, no.

does there have to be a jump or not?? looking for help here people!

@AmericanPowerBase "Where the video?" What video? please stop talking like your someone who knows anything about olympic weightlifting. Just watch any video on youtube if any world or olympic champion tha past 20 years and you'll see no one pulls with hips that high or in a straight line. The U.S. is ranked 27th in the world.
This comment has received too many negative votes show
If a lifter performed powercleans like that (a straight pull) in Korea, China, Bulgaria, or Russia etc. you would be laughed out of the gym. The shortest distance between 2 points does not apply to weightlifting. a pull that creates the most power/bar velocity is what is more important. A syraight pull is not it.

I hadn't really heard that before. I always assumed that a straight bar path and the path of greatest power/velocity were one in the same. Could you respond with a video?
