This video begins along US 52 at Main St. in King, NC (Exit 123) at the Stokes / Forsyth County line and concludes at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (Exit 110B) in downtown Winston-Salem. 52 is known throughout NC as being one of the most dangerous roads to drive due to short acceleration ramps, small lanes, daily accidents, lack of lighting, etc. It connects I-85 in Lexington to Mount Airy, NC and Virginia via I-74/77. NCDOT plans to sign I-74 along a portion of 52 until it exits off onto the proposed Northern Beltway. The rest of the road is planned to be widened to 8 lanes though downtown and signed as I-285. Hope you enjoy!

  • Nice work. Thumbs up and thanks for the ride!

  • @necroslair You're welcome and thank you for watching! :-)

  • Judging by the physical appearance of the overpasses, I would have thought this freeway opened up in the 50's, lol. As long as it works, right? How did you end up creating those signs in your videos? It's a pretty awesome visual effect, my man.

  • @FreewayBrent Those overpasses are fairly typical of late 60's/1970's NCDOT construction. But, I'm not sure when the portion of this road was constructed through downtown as I would think all of its safety problems would've been updated by the 70's. Thanks bro! I have a couple templates I made on Photoshop based off of Georgia's sign style. Depending on how wordy the exits are, I use the largest one I made and adjust it accordingly if need be. I wanted to make the experience more real, you know?

  • Never driven that stretch, thanks for the ride. It looks a lot like I-85 did before the upgrades started in the 1980's. Some of the most god-awful ugly, cheap looking overpasses in the country. Thumbs up!

  • @Freewayjim Thank you, Jim! Regarding the overpasses, are you talking about before or after the upgrades? I like how Georgia has started to texture its concrete supports and retaining walls on 85 as you enter the state. NCDOT could learn a thing or two from you guys...

  • I can see the street I live on at 25 way at the right top corner! lol

  • This stretch of U.S. Highway 52 in Winston-Salem, NC is unrelated to risqué title: "Thug Dick 52: Dukes" or college athletics. edWARDs HardWOOD Flooring may be unrelated to father and son Michigan WolveRInes football players. But switching sports, Cy-GAINES in "TD 52: Dukes" could evoke basketball through Naismith HOF coach Clarence "BigHOUSE" GAINES at Winston-Salem State or the DUKE Blue Devils playing Wake Forest at the Lawrence Joel Vets Coliseum. RAY Rock studios: like a RAY BEAM attack?

  • I doubt TV journalist Ted KoppEL ever rode this stretch of U.S. Highway 52, but his book: "Off Camera--PRIVATE THOUGHTS MADE PUBLIC", links to the nightmare of never having a private moment. Page 55 of the book (Feb. 21) has STANLEY the Seagull. It's unrelated to edWARDs HardWOOD Flooring or bRIarWOOD Mall at 100 bRIarWOOD Circle, Ann ARBOR, MI 48108. Still, the 48108 zip begins 48, like NC Hwy. 48 and ends 108, like the post office at the top of the hill--above Red & White grocery

  • edWARDs HardWOOD Flooring at 9011 miBECK RD, Belews Creek, NC 27009 has a street address beginning MI, like the postal abbreviation for MICHIGAN. Still, it's unrelated to father & son edWARDs for the MICHIGAN WolveRInes in ANN ARBOR or SHOPPING MALLS--despite the BECK ending of miBECK and the 27870 mall. Zip 27870 ends 870, like the 870 telephone area code for HOPE, Arkansas, while 27009 begins 270, like the number of electoral votes needed to become president. The MALL & Wedgewood's 1620 match

  • I'll always associate this stretch of highway with Pilot Mountain, realizing how close Winston-Salem is to the Virginia state line; tuna fish; and pawn shops. The edWARDs Hardwood Flooring truck enters the picture at 3:52. A Google search shows the business is located at 9011 MiBECK Rd, Belews Creek, NC (proprietor apparently GREG). Unrelated: Mt. Airy on U.S. 52 a few miles north of the spot; father-son football edWARDs in Ann Arbor; TV's Andy Griffith marriage to BARBARA BRAY on Aug. 22, 1949

  • Great video, Evan.

So, there's going to another I-285 out there. :-)

Also, there seems to be a lot of LLBs out there. >:-(

  • @CosmoPhotography - Before the upgrades, the original 1950's-60's overpasses in NC and SC have always been uber-ugly IMO. I think NC does a fine job on it's newer projects.
