In my attempt to upload music by artists that I admire while also trying to avoid duplicating the same songs another user may have shared, I find I often overlook some of my favorite artists. This tune and artist meets that description. I'm sure that all jazz lovers are aware of the unique talents of Woody Shaw. A trumpet player that possessed complete command of his instrument, he was technically brilliant while at the same time very emotive in his playing. All the words I possess will never take the place of actually hearing him play so I offer this song from Shaw's live date at San Francisco's famous Keystone Korner Club in the fall of 1981. Here, he is brilliantly accompianed by Steve Turre on trombone and Larry Willis on piano. The arrangement is very similar to the Miles Davis chart from Davis' landmark album " 'Round About Midnight". The video to that tune is available here on YouTube. It's fun to compare the two.
Lineup:
Woody Shaw - trumpet
Steve Turre - trombone
Larry Willis - piano
Stafford James - bass
Victor Lewis - drums
