Mobilization for Climate Justice -- 12/18/09

CLIMATE JUSTICE RALLY AND CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL:

A Communitys Response to Climate Talks Failure and Human Rights Violations in Copenhagen.

As United Nations Copenhagen Climate talks wrap up, negotiations are stalled, the developing world's demands are being ignored, and over 1,500 protesters have been arrested by Danish Police. The US has refused to set realistic climate pollution reduction targets or pay for the impact from past climate pollution. Denmark, UK and US drafted a document to circumvent the UN from all future climate negotiations.
Mobilization for Climate Justice joins international networks Climate Justice Action and Climate Justice Now!, in declaring that the last fifteen years in UN climate negotiations have failed to protect our communities, and are putting corporate profits before public welfare. The negotiations are widely criticized for being undemocratic, marginalizing the voices of those most affected by climate change, and being gravely inadequate to deal with scale of the climate crisis.
Mobilization for Climate Justice is holding a rally and candle light vigil to educate community members about the unsatisfactory progress of the Copenhagen Climate talks. Organizers are also delivering a letter of protest to the Danish Consulate stating:

1.)Concern about the Danish Government's stance in working to legitimize undemocratic climate negotiations
2.)Concern about the Copenhagen polices questionable detention activities
