I'm pleased to share with all of you our most recently completed project, Harvest City, a visualization of Boston-based designer, E. Kevin Schopfer's concept for sustainable development in Haiti. A year ago, we were all deeply saddened by the earthquake that tore through the island, devastating its capital, Port au Prince. Since then, people from all over the world have responded and given generously to help emergency relief and recovery efforts.
My team and I felt quite strongly that we wanted to put our combined talents to work in visualizing a path for Haiti to rebuild and sustainably expand into the future. Over the years, we have built our professional reputation in part by creating compelling imagery of futuristic developments, conceptual buildings, and sustainable engineering projects. Harvest City presented a bold plan to expand the island's habitable and productive area that bolsters both the economy and community of Haiti.
While the concept was designed specifically with Haiti in mind, it is an idea that could easily be extended to many coastal population centers. Over the past year, we have worked to turn conceptual designs into compelling visuals and animated video that would communicate the designer's vision to a global audience.
It's been a great experience bringing Harvest City to life and contributing our time and energies to the global dialog on the future of Haiti. We encourage you to share this with your friends and colleagues, and also suggest closing out 2010 with a pledge to one of the many foundations currently assisting with the recovery efforts in the Republic of Haiti.

The Tangram 3DS team wishes you all Happy Holidays, as well as health, success, and happiness in 2011!

Sincerely,
Stefan Vittori

  • Great concept but has major flaws : any structures on sea will always be vulnerable to ocean waves, not to mention possible tsunami's and hurricane problems-costing millions in repair. Then issue of how to do you safeguard against leakage of human waste into the sea-so in the end land based city development while vulnerable to earthquake, can be build with better earthquake resistant building codes.

  • ...but will it blend?

i really like the idea of floating houses

  • I think this project is good in idea but lack of reality.

First, it costs a lot of money.

Second, it doesn't depend on Haiti's lifestyle and culture.

I think it can't be real but it's good to be start. You can use some concepts in it and adapt it.

  • I don't want to be negative. I am haitian and have a grand vision for my country, but It doesn't seem like the person who designed this know something about Haiti, what it needs or how people interact, what transport options they have. Go to Haiti, observe, ask questions. There is need not only of reconstruction of the Capital but of urban planning and economic development in the rest of Haiti. I don't think No, I think Not Now

  • almost a good concept for haiti

  • LOL, you fools, what happens when storms and earthquakes rock their region, as they are well known to.

  • It all looks great but how practical is this?
