Too big toot fail !
I saw them in Brussels a few days later after that gig for the french TV...
What a band ! The most violent in rock'and roll history, I think.

@Lastaccountgothacked There doesn't appear to be any distortion and delay on the solo of this version of Hangin' Around. Quite a clean sound in fact. Should have been louder in my view.

Exce-fuckin-lent ! One of my favourite all-time bands ever! Great performance all round. I couldn't help but notice how busy Jet Black was on the drums. Wicked playing!

like the bit when JJ throws the water into the crowd

@Hwral It's my view that Hugh felt intimidated by JJ. There's a reference in Hugh's book about an incident where JJ physically attacked him and is referenced again by both in David Buckleys book, "No Mercy". I reckon Hugh had had enough of JJ's volatile temperament and decided to leave. Although he makes no mention of this in his book it's clear to me that was the primary reason he quit. A pity they couldn't work things out. The Stranglers with Hugh involved were brilliant.

Oh well, that happened many years after this great performance. Matters came to a head in 1990, but the seeds of dissatisfaction spawned sometime before then.
There was always some tension between Hugh and JJ, both in personal and artistic ways. Just read Hugh's bio called "A Multitude Of Sins" and you'll know more about that.
