Saddam's Palace at Camp Prosperity - Baghdad, Iraq

This is one of Saddam's wife's three palaces in Baghdad. It was bombed all to hell, and then looted by Iraqis at the beginning of the war.

It is currently being rebuilt, so that it can be given back to the Iraqi people.

It is also the home of "Camp Prosperity". One of many camps for Coalition Forces in Baghdad, at the edge of the Green Zone.

I thought I'd be staying here for the remainder of my embed. I was sorely mistaken. This place was nice, wifi, PX, and local merchants selling stuff. I also got my first shower in 5 days here, and a decent nights sleep in a private room. The last privacy I would have for two weeks.

I was there in early 2004 and we were the first group there. We built that fob from the ground up. There was a small handful of MI guys living in the palace before we got there..maybe 6 people or less. When we first arrived, we weren't even allowed inside the palace, I had to sneak past the yellow tape and went on a little exploration through the whole palace and took some pictures. By the time we left there were people actually living in the palace and it was also a chow hall.

when did they put checkpoints on that side of the palace? i was there in 06 and they only had the ECP's entering the FOB

I was there when it was FOB Highlander! Before 1st Cav left and 3rd ID came back and 4th Bde had about a half dozen SGM's lurking around the chow hall making uniform corrections to us CAPOC guys, pissed us off cause we had different uniform standards.... but 2nd Bde, 3rd ID kicks ass in ways words fail to describe!
