Another "dirty old town"... written by Michelle Shocked.
This is a song from Michelle's second album "Short, Sharp, Shocked" 1988.
sorry I had to remove the name of the originator from the title by request of channel "mshocked". I recommend to have a look :) at her channel instead: http://www.youtube.com/user/mshocked

also sorry for bad sound and balance quality, since I have no external mic yet, and the cam's dynamic mic has it's own opinion about how to adjust...
--------------
Lyrics:
There was a red sun rising early in this ghetto
Full moon was rising late last night
But you would not know, no you were fast asleep
You only see the city in the broad daylight
In the broad daylight
Fogtown, fogtown, down and out on your streets
I would run if I only had a place to run to
In old Fogtown

Her name was Ruby Red, she was a two-bit hooker
She had a man named Juan who tried to keep her clean
But late last night when the heroin took her
There was one less siren when the sirens reached the scene
Reached the scene
Fogtown, fogtown, down and out on your streets
I would run if I only had a place to run to
Old Fogtown

Well the city's got the charms of a painted lady
And survival bites like a black-headed bitch
You can find yourself on the closest corner
You wanna stay, you wanna go you've got the Fogtown itch
You've got the Fogtown itch
Fogtown, fogtown, on down and out on your streets
I would run if I only had a place to run
To old Fogtown
You're gonna be the death of me
Death of me

  • great cover, but it would be great if you could show how to play it.....

  • @pamarina1 thankyou for the nice comment! I don't know how it is played originally, I applied sort of "flamenco scheme" which simply goes am-am/G-F (or F6) and E, that's all. hope it helps! :o)

  • Oh it's a pity we don't hear the lyrics very clearly... but it's very good nonetheless :^)

  • I'm sorry it seems either guitar to see or voice to hear without extern mic. but I think the lyrics brought me down too and made it lower than already elsewhere... :o/ - thankyou anyway... (o:

  • Nice cover frozenwhitebear.

  • hey, this is a nice version of this brilliant song. Good job !

  • no matter, I better don't know what I'm missing!! so thanks so much for coming by. seems Michelle herself or her staff is watching over the covers on here, since I got a mail to change the title (I'll mention it in my info now). so the more I'm glad to introduce you into that.... ;)

  • hey Rick that's so nice of you to say!! I don't know myself... yeah I agree that's a marvellous song, dark lyrics though. maybe you've heard the cover by glen hansard, I must confess I don't like that so much, though Glen is a great entertainer. I'd prefer Michelle's original, lol! ;o)

  • Sorry friend! Did not realize I had missed several of your songs while away!

I llike it! Barely knew it, and glad to hear your version! ~NAncy
