--How to?--------
First of all uploading clip must be bigger than 340x240, such as use 480x360 (regardless of original video quality) in order to pass the first screening process by youtube, so that it recognizes as HQ clip, once the clip passes this blind filter ony checks size of clip, it will be encoded in two or few more versions, one is default 340x240 mono 64kbps audio in flv, one is 480x360 with stereo audio (128kbps MP3, 44.1khz stereo) in mp4 format up to 512bps of average bit rate is allowed for uploading clip which can be viewed by adding &fmt=18 at the end of the same video address, and it plays back in stereo! :) and another is in HQ flash movie up to 900kbps limit, but in mono audio (128kbps MP3) which can be viewed by adding &fmt=6 for the same video address. Without this &fmt=18 and other tags, it will playback mono version in 64kbps audio with 320x240.

So, it is up to your need whether you want better stereo sound, or better visual with mono sound as long as your file is within those bitrates limitations.

Took me a whole day to figure this out by stupidly uploading 340x240 stereo clip in different bitrates, and soon or later the clip was down encoded to mono audio without an option since youtube algorithm thinks it's not HQ by checking resolution/size of clip.

It is also advisable to use 15fps instead of using 29-30fps to reduce video bitrates and it basically looks the same, just exactly a half frame rate. It doesn't have to be encoded as flv video before uploading, however it will save your time in whole process if you encode it first locally since flv is relatively small file to upload, few MB to max 30MB or so for max 10 min.

Try it yourself to see if it works for you :) Below are data for this clip.

Bitrates was bit bigger than their limit of 512kbps for MP4 HQ, but it worked :)

--How to embed Stereo HQ clip?--

--How to include HQ video within playlist?--
I don't know, since I can't hack playlist coding resides in server :( Anyone knows how to? Though, it is possible to write custom script either using javascript or php to rotate several stereo clips as playlist outside of YT domain, or tile each stereo clip one after another to be embedded.

i'm having trouble with the embeding of the video in HQ, you said to copy &ap=%2526fmt%3D18 in the address but it doesnt seem to work or maybe I'm just doing it wrong, any help appreciated :)

Not just to copy, but add this string at the end of your clip address to be embeded within embeding tag both for object value="...&ap=%2526fmt%3D18" and embed src="...&ap=%2526fmt%3D18".

okay I did that but i still doesn't work.

I can get it to play in HQ on youtube here when adding &fmt=18 but I added &ap=%2526fmt%3D18 to the object and embed source links but when i preview the post on the forum all i get is the code and no video

this is one video i'm trying to have work, maybe you can see if you can get it to work in HQ on a forum

This video krSd-lX-Tdw uploaded by MusicMike2 today (2008年06月28日) and all of him are in Stereo (without &fmt=18), clean, don't hacked. I don't know how do it. I have the same problem, and seeking solution yet.

According to our experiment, default clip could stay in stereo for a day to few days if it was uploaded as stereo in flv movie, however soon or later it was down encoded to mono, so we'll see what happens. If it stays in stereo perpetually, may b there are servers they use did not implement youtube's new scheme.

Yes, it seems to be possible to upload stereo clip without fmt if visual is static photo instead of movie clip and it brings down total bitrate drastically and the ones seem to work are less than 10MB in flv format, as far as we know. Have you seen movie clip over 5 min with stereo audio without fmt?

haha, i did use fmt=18, i jusy type like hell usualy on my comments... but I did realize i was using flash 9.076 or something like that... i upgraded to flash 9.0124, added the fmt, and now it works in stereo!! still is weird, with my previous flash, i still manage to listen to recently uploaded stuff in stereo without the fmt code... so who knows...

Another error I saw in your comment. It is not ftm=18, it is fmt=18! FMT simply stands for ForMaT :) This is a FORMAT youtube uses to listen stereo clip using MP4 encoding which is Eighteen according to their formatting whatever it is.
