Daniel Dennett is called to a debate!

Philosopher and Theologian calls the philosopher and New Athiest Daniel Dennett to debate. Dennett is coming to Claremont where Philip teaches. Will he accept or make sweeping dismissive one liners from stage?

Hello I am a Professor Emeritus at the homerj7g Online Institute for Voodoo Theology and Philosophy. I challenge Dr. Clayton to a debate on theology and philosophy on Feb 16th. I don't think it should be just Dr. Clayton and Dr. Dennett on stage. In order to have a true debate, the positions from Voodoo theology must also be presented.

My claim is that Christianity can not stand up to the obvious truth of the Voodoo religion.

Will Dr. Clayton wuss out? Probably.

What theological argument could you add to a debate that hasn't already discussed and thoroughly refuted ad nauseam by Dennett, Hitchens, Dawkins or Harris?

What reason does Daniel have to believe you have something new and interesting to bring to a debate? I'm sure all 4 are sick of the same tired rhetoric put forth by theologic fame whores that, in the end, only embarrass themselves and those they argue for.

So WHO ARE YOU? Dennett & Dawkins frequently debate theists and sooner or later someone somewhere says: 'Ah but why won't you debate ME? What are you frightened of?' -or words to that effect. This is the problem: so even if Dennett DID debate you there's always another & another & another theists just like you who says 'Yeah but as you can see he's FRIGHTENED of debating ME!' Well I haven't even heard of you!

@sitemountain I agree. Although I will take issue with the last point. There are many times when ad hominem attacks are perfectly acceptable and even called for. One I could point to quite easily is the claim, by creationists, that there are no transitional fossiles. The entire ID magical gathering should be mocked and ridiculed.

BUT, I do say that we should hold off on ad hominem until all efforts to explain the relevant science has been exhausted and the other person's stopped listening.

Perhaps Dan is rather tired of debating with people who won't play by the rules of rationality? Or maybe he's really scared you will run rings around him? Does Dan Dennett shy away from public debates? No -you will see some here on YouTube. So which is more likely? He is afraid OR he feels he is banging his head against a brick wall when he TRIES to have a serious debate with the likes of you? What sort of criticisms are used against skeptics such as D.D. - Ad hominem attacks JUST LIKE THIS ONE!

@bungopony You clearly have no idea what Clayton believes. His beliefs fall squarely in line with science. He has nothing in common with the folks that Dennett debates ad nauseum.
