I'm not going to lie, she was getting to me. And it hurt.. A lot. What was she trying to prove? Nick is with me, he loves me. I think.. I looked at myself once again in the mirror and tried to compose myself. I then walked out of the bathroom and back to our table which was now joined with another table.. Miley's table. Miley was eating with a dark haired man, I can't say I had ever seen him before but I didn't care really. I don't care how hungry I was I didn't want to eat beside her. I looked across the table to Nick and he just shrugged. I guess one lunch wouldn't be so bad. My food arrived about 5 minutes later; Miley hadn't stopped talking since I took my seat. I was happy I had something else to occupy my attention. I glanced at Nick once again to see if he was enjoying his meal but he was scribbling something down on a napkin when he was done he shoved it over to me.
''fake sick! Please''
I looked up at him and smiled a little. Childish but clever, and it would get us out of this horrible situation. Unfortunately Miley saw Nick pass it to me.
''Ohh passing notes?! That's so cute! Nick and I used to pass notes all the time at the dinner table.''
She giggled and gave him a sly look that could almost make me sick for real.
''One time Nick spent the whole evening writing "I love you" on a napkin and then he passed it to me during dessert. It was so sweet, no pun intended! And another time he asked me to meet him in the coat room..''
She paused and looked down and then laughed a little bit before talking again.
''I think it would be best If I stopped that story at that... Isn't that right Nicky?''
Okay now I'm going to get sick for real. Before I could begin to talk Nick had stood up
''That's enough! Sel, let's go. I'm sure Miley won't mind footing the bill''
He smiled at her half-heartedly. And grabbed my hand as I stood. I had dropped my bag beside my chair and pulled back to go pick it up. As I dipped my head beside my chair Miley lowered her lips to me ears and once again I heard that familiar whisper.
''I know about Joe, so you better watch it..''
I froze, and slowly looked up at her as I began to stand up straight. My heart was pounding. I wanted to hit her, hard. I wanted to yell at her. But most of all I wanted to keep my composure for Nick. I didn't want to lose it in public. So I backed up slowly and grabbed Nick's hand again and we started to head out. I watched my feet move as I walked beside Nick. I didn't bother to look at the scenery I had been raving about all day. Nick was talking but it sounded muffled to me. I can't believe I couldn't get away from this. I should have just left Nick in the park that day. It's better for him and it's better for me. All these stories from Miley and Nick's past are making me wonder if he was telling the truth. He said he wasn't in love with her but it sure sounded like he was. We got back to his flat and went straight to the bedroom. I grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom and made sure to lock the door behind me. I started a hot shower and I got in and I just stood there. Thinking. Should I leave? I'm in Europe no one would ever find me. It would work everything would be okay... I think. I heard Nick call my name and knock on the door. It was unusual for me to lock it. But I didn't answer I didn't want to see him. Seeing him would only make it harder if I really did leave. After probably 30 minutes I got out of the shower put on a t shirt and some jeans and I came out. Nick was in the kitchen, typical. He was making something that smelt wonderful. But I didn't go over and check it out. I wandered over to the couch grabbed adn blanket and sat out on the deck. I heard a knock on the door and then someone opened it, obviously Nick. And it was Miley, I could tell by her voice. But I didn't turn around I just sat there. Staring out. I could hear a muffled conversation and then footsteps coming my way. Nick kneeled beside me but I didn't acknowledge him.
''Sel, uhh.. Don't get mad its nothing, but Miley has this gala and she needs a date just for the carpet and she asked me if it was okay that I 'went.. Is that fine? I'll only be gone about an hour''
Perfect. An hour would work for me to get far enough away from here. I didn't look at Nick I just stayed looking out straight.
''Go.''
''Are you su-''
''Go.''
He stood up straight and his voice sounded unsure when he said okay to me. He bent down and kissed the top of my head. I shut my eyes tight to stop myself from crying. Miley knew where I was and she knows about Joe. I can't say no to her. And I need to leave this place.
