  • Just announced, Riley will start against the season opener hosting MSU. Longshore will also play as was planned.

  • Don't throw Longshore out just yet

I've seen him play since 2006

And I thought he was going to be a great QB

I don't think you should blame it all on the QB cause CAL over all had a break down after the OSU game. And thats when Longshore was injured

I honestly think Longshore is going to end up being like Dennis Dixon and he'll light it up his senior year

  • i think Tedford said at the media day in the last week that both QBs would definitely see playing time.

i dont think it matters who starts because i think this year, he wont be so hesitant to pull the starter if they arent performing well.

  • Just give him the position. It's gonna be another bad year if Longshore somehow gets to start. Whan an awful QB that guy is. Singlehandedly ruined the season with his suckiness.

  • i really thing some people are a bit over the top against him. when healthy Longshore can be a solid qb. he had a great 2006, was rated the top JR qb in the country and led cal to 10 wins. there were a lot more issues with the cal team this year then just qb play.

Longshore can be solid again this year, we know what he can do at his best and worst. Riley played one game very well against a seriously inferior opponent (size/ability-wise). He has more upside but is more of a risk.

  • The Bowl Game. We were headed for another miserable loss behind Longshore til Tedford finally gave in. Riley has "it", Longshore doesn't. It's quite simple.

  • we were headed for a miserable loss because the defense gave up 21 points in the first quarter.

longshore wasnt playing badly he only got two drives and without DJ or Jordan. riley came in with the first team receivers and played well against a defense that that had a huge size and ability disadvantage. doesnt prove much of anything.

like i said, riley does have the upside, but is still an wildcard.

  • kevin riley will be a good cal qb dude trust me with a running back like best and a good reciver core we will be fine.

  • No he didn't. I think Nate has his strengths and I'm not going to bash him. But, I definitely think Riley has a good future. He is dealing with an injured O-line and inexperienced receivers. There were a few overthrows against Oregon State, but some were right on the money and dropped by the receivers. Also, I think not playing a consistent quarterback has not allowed Riley to develop a chemistry with the offense. Bottom line, he is athletic and has the skills. I'm excited for '09.

  • is it me, or does riley really suck in '08? I just finished watching the '08 oregon st. game and he pulled a nate

  • You think Tedford might be tempted to throw an Option wrinkle into the Playbook with Riley playing now? Hmm...I likes it! GO BEARS!!!

  • well i rest my case lol... i dont really care whos the better qb as long as we winnin... Go Cal

  • mac510drew, you are truly terrible! Longshore is a good QB, but he can't move for shit. His 40 yard dash time is like a 5.1!!!! Riley can move better and he has a great arm. Longshore is good but Riley is better. "They come and they go."

  • mac510drew I'm sorry but you are not a Cal fan if you honestly think that Nate was the reason we were #2. If you actually watched the OSU game, which you probably didn't because that game can't be completely blamed on Riley, you would see the Cal defense getting picked apart by OSU passing. Football is a team game, it isn't Rileys fault the defense let OSU score all the points they did. Trust me I was there. Cal Bears for life though.
