Jung Lin's HR2 is extraordinary and ranks at the level of Rach and Moiseiwitsch, my preferred performances. Her interpretation is the one that is very similar to Rach's - little pedal, fast tempi, lots of rubato, changing dynamics and tempo; everything I want to hear from a performance of the HR2.
I posted a vid of 17 pianists trying to play the octave ending. Richard Kastle and Marc Hamelin made the best recordings of the current pianists. Rachmaninoff is hands down the best from his era.
@blizzardballz This was recorded on April 22, 1919. On an upright piano. It is his first recording session. He recorded three takes of it and Edison issued all three. The take here is take "C." Rachmaninoff recorded a few other things in this session and got a flat fee. The contract was a verbal one. Rach told Edison he wanted to sign with another company and Edison finally sent him a written contract to sign, but Rach rejected it. Victor (later RCA) then signed him.

Compositions of Liszt and Rachmaninoff in one... This is heaven!

Gilels' performance of the Liszt HR2 is on YT :-)) Rachmaninoff is THE master, Gilels' interpretation is absolutely surreal.
