I used to live on the Navajo rez, and I remember hearing about the uranium just outside of Tuba City. Later I learn that the tribal government was desperate for the money, so they allowed it. Uranium and Coal money comprise the majority of the Navajo/Hopi goverment funds. The tribal governments are just as much to blame as are the mining companies and the larger AZ public that doesn't care.
there's a compagnie were i live (sept-iles in quebec) that found uranium. the plans to open a mine is on the table and the first nation here is going to accept the money of there land (were the mine is going to be).... i do not know what to do... alot of the people do not know the effects on health and the environement. do you know some documents or movies that could a least make them undersand the impact of the dicison that they will make.
This is not right. I don't understand why USA is not doing anything about these things. The people have the right to healthy lives without having to worry about getting sick when going out.
Also I think since humans are intelligent why not come up with something to replace nuclear power and other dangerous resources, something more environmentally friendly and safe for humans. The resources of earth aren't going to last forever anyways...
This is uncomfortable watching - well done for putting it up.
I hope in this century the human costs of nuclear power and other new technologies will be addressed with more attention given to individual experiences like this, and not just to the large-scale end result.
The end can never fully justify the means by which it is brought about, if this means unnecessary suffering. It is right that we should at least try to remain as aware as we can be of the costs which accompany the payouts.
One of these day, I will pay a visit to your town and see it. However, don't expect me to come in with only tourist clothing but with radiation suit and geiger counter along with other stuff.
