From the February 2008 issue of Guitar World. Amazing pickups, I have a set in my LTD Eclipse and they do not dissapoint. Many people are replacing their EMGs with these, including Mick Thomson, Silenoz (Sven Kopperud, Dimmu Borgir) and Dino Cazares.

  • How would blackouts (ahb 3) sound in basswood?

  • @CalzNL Not sure, if you look that up on here you could probably find some videos of someone with them in an Ibanez.

  • @nblax41 thats the problem, there is like 1 vid of an ibanez basswood and he doesn´t play metal :(

  • @CalzNL Look up some Dino Cazares stuff. He plays Ibbys and Blackouts.

  • will these be able to fit on a BC Rich Beast V NT? I'm wondering about the pots cos the Beast V only has 3...

  • @jacka1996 Sure they can, my ESP has 2 volumes and a tone like your BC and it's fine. They come with diagrams to have them wired for 1 volume and 1 tone, 2 volume 1 tone and even 2 volumes and 2 tones like a Les Paul. There are ways to wire them so they have only a volume as well, or simply an on-off switch. You can go on the Seymour Duncan website and look at them yourself.

  • Yeh true. Never thought of it that way. At least he tries his best to play a wide range of genres.

  • This is called "individual design"

  • Awesome RZK-1!!!

  • To help the debate here, I played EMG 81 for like 2 years and then had the blackouts on my 7 strings for a year and you see that it kicked the EMG's ass big time

  • @nblax41 Lets saturate this review with a lot of reverb, jk, i like the blackouts a lot but what do you think of the x series from emg and as a match do you think they might pair up well, i'm looking for a 60 neck tone and i don't know if any of the duncans sound similar in the neck.

  • @nblax41 Cheers =)

  • @DjentFoxProductions Well I don't haev any experience with 7 strings but I would say the same characteristics hold true for them as well. They will sound less compressed and will have better low end. I also tune a full step down on my 6 strings and they sound heavy as shit so you should like them.

  • @nblax41 so blackouts are good for a crystal clear high and low end?, i use a 7 string

  • @DjentFoxProductions Well I own a set of Blackouts. I think they sound a little less comressed and have a better low end on them, but if you're tuning to drop A you might want the comression of EMGs or look into the Mick Thompson Blackouts which have a tighter bottom and some more gain.

  • what would you choose emg or blackouts could you tell me the pros and cons of each? also i below drop A like stainds tuning and some djent

  • OMG A HARMONIC MINOR TO E MAJOR! I always practice my cleans on that progression

  • @SgtvVv e flat

  • @SgtvVv Haha this isn't me bro, but its a safe bet he's playing in E standard

  • what tuning are you in?

  • @codename40 I don't have any experience with Mustain livewires, I know they're lower output than Blackouts, supposed to be an active version of the JB. Guess it will depend on what kind of sound you're looking for. Search around on here for samples to help decide.

  • i don't know which pickups to choose, dave mustaine livewires or blackouts ? any advice ?

  • This guy is awesome! Thanks Paul.

  • @CiviC092 Sorry man, but first off EMG is a brand, while the blackout is just one individual pickup from another company. Secondly, the Blackout is often compared with the EMG 81, and they are two very different pickups. Neither is better than the other. It's a matter of which that people prefer

  • @tubescreamermuff My guitar is in D standard or drop C at all times, no need for a hotter pickup. You might as well just get an 81 if you're going to use the AHB-2, thats what it was designed for after all. These things have all the gain you need, anything else just gets fuzzy or too compressed.

  • Alnico V magnets are much better...the AHB-2 metal's are much better... for low-tuned metal with great lead tones too

  • @SoulCollector666 Ever heard of the Ventures? They used Mosrite guitars.
