Debate: Designers and Scripting systems

http://www.trustwho.com Designers see scripting languages as powerful tools for rapidly implementing game ideas and directly realizing their gameplay goals without having to rely on the programming pipeline. Programmers see designer scripting as a source of unstable and unmaintainable code and post launch disaster scenarios. This debate explores this conflict in a formal debate style.

Another issue I see here is that it seems like most of the people attending are programmers, and they became programmers because they want to make games, but programming a game is not designing a game, and just because you spent so much time investing in programming doesn't even make you qualified to design a game.

Game design is an art, it can be aided by program knowledge, but being a programmer isn't a vice toward designing, in fact I feel MMOs mostly fail because programmers are designing
