Teddy Gren was a Big Tough guy on the ice but a real gentleman and softy off the ice. Teddy's injury kept him from playing in the 1969-70 playoffs when The Bruins won The Cup. When they were rolling out the carpet after Orr scored the overtime goal, Ted couldn't contain himself and got teary-eyed. One of the great Bruins players, his jumping to the WHA after 1972 probably cost The Bruins the 1974 cup vs. The Flyers.

@artistseye1 The incident was actually in a September, 1969 pre-season game which I believe was the first time a Bruins' pre-season game was ever televised in the Boston area.
It was sickening to watch and station WSBK banned the footage from ever being televised again. In fact, I believe they erased it.
Green would come back in the Fall of 1970, play a couple of more years in Boston, then move on to the New England/Hartford Whalers when the World Hockey Association began.

what are you shitting me? timidly jumped him? when you go after another teams goalie you deserve to beaten by the whole team how is a goalie with padding gonna fight a guy with almost no padding at all back then the goalies didnt wear much but when you fight a guy with almost no padding at all it makes a difference he deserved the beating he recieved and hes a pussy for what he did to green

@artistseye1 My dad grew up with Ted and I remember him coming over to the house when I was a kid and he slurred his words really bad, I thought he was drunk half the time until my dad explained he'd been doing that since the Make incident.
Hell of a great guy off the ice, he sort of adopted my cousin as a little brother and used to get him ice level seats all the time in the old glory days of WHA Jets.

@IlpoNuokko It is rather ironic though.

@belair55zz56 he didnt die mysterious, he was killed in a drug deal gone bad..

I remember when Wayne Maki beat Ted Green with a stick during an pre-season game, thereafter Brian "Spinner" Spencer fought Ted Green, Brian Spencer quit hockey lived the beach bum life and then died mysteriously.

I'd forgotten how tough hockey used to be. Makes the modern day guys look like figure skaters.
Wayne Maki actually died of brain cancer about five years after that incidence. It's got nothing to do with the fight.

Ted Green was the one that got brained in a stick fight with Wayne Maki in 1970 preseason game. Green ended up with a steel plate in his head. Wayne Maki was suspended for much of the season. Ted Green almost died in that incident and wore a helmet for the rest of his career.
