I think it falls more along the lines of differences between Eastern and Western fantasy. Whereas western historical fantasy is more focused on magic and the supernatural. Eastern historical fantasy tends to focus more on impossible feats of strength and/or reflexes. They sometimes have magic too but it is generally to augment their fighting rather than as a central form of power in itself. Chinese have non-fantasy movies like Flash Point as well which has more "realistic" (no wires) fighting.

Try to find the story INSIDE the story. Compare the colours. See the plotbending when the story of Nameless is countered by the story of the king AFTER he gets close to the king. Accept Low gravity fights and calligraphy as a martial art. Enjoy the Chinese army scenes and the ultimate hate/love relation between Flying Snow and Broken Sword.

I think the soundtrack is too heavy for that movie, it works for armies, but not for the dance-like fighting in this movie. Apart from that, that's one awesome fan-trailer
