The Birmingham Athletic Partnership (BAP) announced their 2009 All-City Football Selections and called on community business leaders, civic organizations, and government officials to recognize and support these and other programs of the Birmingham City Schools as an important investment in the future of the community and its students.

We are proud of these young men who represent their respective schools as outstanding student athletes, said BAP Founder and President Edgar Welden. Offering recognition to these students, coaches and football programs is an honor for us and we hope, like many of our activities and programs, it encourages these and other students to stay involved throughout their high school experience.

In addition, BAP challenged Birminghams corporate, government and civic leadership to join in the effort in support of all students involved in the athletics, cheerleading, band, and related programs provided by Birmingham City Schools. These students deserve our support as a community, said Welden. We have a responsibility to ensure they have every opportunity to participate in activities that will help them succeed in the future, but they need your help and participation.

The students named as the BAP 2009 All-City Football Selections are:

Wenonah High School

Team of the Year
Parker High School

We want to congratulate these student athletes on a job well done, said BAP Executive Director Mike Vest. They represent their schools, the City of Birmingham and what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.
Recent studies show that involvement in high school sports and other extracurricular activities motivates students to stay in school. With that in mind, BAP was founded on the premise that support of school-based athletics, cheerleading, band and other related programs are vital to a successful future for Birmingham students and the community in which they live. BAP identifies the specific needs of the related programs in Birmingham City Schools and matches those needs with an organizations resources, abilities and willingness to help, said Vest. Some of the ways in which community groups, companies, or service organizations can support these students and their programs include the formation or participation in booster clubs, providing volunteers as mentors or tutors to students, attending events and competition in a show of community support, or providing the people and time necessary to help with special projects.
BAP encourages everyone to follow the lead of these corporate partners:

ACIPCO
Maynard, Cooper & Gale, PC
Alabama Power Foundation
Pricewaterhouse Coopers
Regions Bank
Protective Life
First American Bank
Starnes & Atchison, LLP
Ligon Industries, LLC
Viva Health
