Hope's POV
The moon is high. It is bright orange. Kind of creepy. It is cold in the house and my blanket isn't helping. My throat hurts. A lot...
My parents.... They went out for dinner. Again. Every Friday night, and if I don't go to Jenna's house then I stay here. I like being here... alone. It's very... very calm and peaceful. Most Friday's are like this....
Unluckily, I'm sick, and the power went out. Our neighborhood has the worst power outages. The power has been off for as long as 2 months. It's annoying. Always having to use a flashlight and a match. My parents won't let me use a match. So instead I usually use a flashlight, but the batteries are dead this time.
Someone knocked on the door. Earlier. I didn't answer. I'm not supposed too. I look out the peephole though. Sometimes I can't tell who is outside, but most of the time it's the neighbors trying to tell us about something or their alcoholic son mumbling something. I don't like answering the door. Too dangerous. Even when Mom is right there on the couch, I won't answer it. I just stare at the door till someone else gets it. Then I hide next to the fridge which sticks out just enough for me to "skinny myself" so whoever is at the door won't see me, and I won't see them. Nothing bad has ever happened but that doesn't mean it can't.
I don't like the dark. It's too... scary. Not being able to see anything that's around you. Half the time I can't even see my own hand....if it's dark enough. It's like I'm blind. I never want to be blind, if this is what it's like.....
My cell is ringing. It's the hospital....

Hope: yes..... Who is this?
?????: This is Doctor John from St Joseph's Hospital.
Hope: (thinks: probably looking for my mom) My mom isn't here right now.
Doctor John: Yes, I know. I have some bad news....
Hope :( silent).......
