I think this song is about celebrities who died too young and tragically and now they "dance in the dark". She mentions Marilyn, Judy, Liberace and Diana. Marilyn Monroe (died of a prescription drug overdose) Judy Garland (alcoholism), Liberace (AIDS) and Princess Diana died as a result of her fame. All these people had emotional issues / problems / addictions so they were "a mess". They died and are hopefully dancing in the dark.
