Incompatibility problems like that are bit of an annoyance and setback, the problem is people keep creating and changing standards to the point there's so many references out there and these are custom developed proprietary standards that aren't shared and simplified and included or supported by custom applications. For the same reason a developer wastes time re-inveting the wheel like an OBJModel file format reader. Yet someone else has already developed a method for reading/writing that data.
