Welcome to what I consider a much more "up there" cover. I think it's one of the best by far and I'm quite surprised I keep wanting to watch it. (If the effect on the video is a bit much I can take it off and upload a new one) I did one take on the guitar that would be known as "Edge's guitar" or the parts Edge plays during this song and did another playing the parts Bono plays, which you can hear panned to the right. Well looking back I realized that it felt empty without a second guitar. I grabbed my Telecaster off the stand and plugged it directly into my M Audio Fast Track Pro. On Garageband I selected under 'Track' / "New Track" and chose the electric guitar bubble. I modeled a Vox AC30 amp (left the settings exactly as they are) and selected for the effects pedal the Yellow colored pedal which is an Overdrive. (Garageband users you probably know what I'm talking about ;) ) I had the gain set pretty high and the tone at around 1 o' clock. So that track was to be "Bono's guitar" or playing the parts that Bono plays. The chorus sounded very empty without Bono's guitar parts so I did an overdub and it really did the trick. You might not think much of Bono standing up there playing guitar but they add much more than you might think.

As for The Edge's part, I just used my Telecaster (as you see here) into my Line 6 M13 and into the Vox AC4. On the M13 I modeled the following effects:

Intro/Verses/Bridge: 63 Spring Rvb, Fuzz Pi (Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi)
Chorus/Outro: 63 Spring Rvb, Digital Dly w/ Mod, and Screamer (Ibanez TS9) (for the outro I used Octo for the "shimmer" sound instead of the 63 Spring Rvb)

Now I own a EHX Little Big Muff Pi (same as the Big Muff just in a smaller housing) so I could have used the actual thing but I liked the sound of the one I modeled on the M13. The trickiest thing is getting the right sound for the chorus as well as the bridge, which took me a while to understand. I mic'd my AC4 for Edge's part with a Shure SM57 and ran that to an M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro. I also cleaned the track up a little with a hint of reverb, some compression, and EQ. I think I hit on just about every spot here. The chorus may not be dead accurate but I liked it.
