rish poet Thomas Moore composed this song in 1804 during a visit to Canada and based it on a voyageurs' song. During his trip, Moore was rowed down the Saint Lawrence River from Kingston to Montreal. The song is about the rapids at St. Ann's.

Mercy Coles, one of the main characters in the novel To the Edge of the Sea by Anne McDonald, writes about the Canadian Boat Song.
