"You Called and You Shouted"
Surrey 2 Original Short Film Pacific RYCON 2010
Rarely do we ever hear God shout. More often we hear God speaking in a "still small voice". How do we know when God's calling us? Calls are easy to ignore. In this film, Jesus calls Christina in a quite literal manner. We see her blatantly ignore God's calls. However, in reality, we often ignore God's calls. He shouts through other people; he calls us through service. God is always shouting out to us in a variety of ways, calling us to respond.
Throughout the film, Jesus called Christina to serve in a variety of ways: Camp Glorify, CCD classes and GK. She turned them all down, truly "missing God's calls". In the dream sequence, when Jesus asks Christina to check her missed calls, she is surprised at how often Jesus had called her. After her encounter with Jesus, she is able to effectively hear God's voice. In the end, Christina answers a call from Jesus to participate in the agape ministry. Like us, after our encounter with Jesus, we should become better listeners. Each day we should be able to decipher God's voice a little more clearly.
God even calls Christina through her ringtone, which is Matt Maher's "Alive Again", a song modeled after an excerpt from St. Augustine's Confessions:
"...late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would not have been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness."
The whole video centers on St. Augustine's experience. Like the saint, Christina was searching for God. She wondered why she wasn't hearing His voice. She didn't realize he was there all along. Distractions kept her from deciphering God's voice, but God was able to break through her deafness.
God is always searching for us, calling to us, shouting for us. When we allow Him, He'll break through our deafness, allowing us to experience new life.
Through this video, we hope to inspire Pacific Region to become mission ready Catholics who long to respond and shout praises to our God, who breaks us out of our deafness.
We hope you liked our video!
God Bless,
Matthew & Christina
