It's inspired by a dance performed in New York clubs, on the underground gay scene.

See the film "Paris Is Burning" it came out in 1990 but the documentary was filmed from the mid to late 80's. You can even see Jose one of Madonna's dancers in the Vogue video and BA tour is in it.

Madonna released the song Vogue about 1 year before the film came out.

@jmjf1987 You're so right! However, she's got her loyal following and she will never lose us, so if she went back to "mature" stuff, she would really be coming out ahead. She's still got it, no doubt. I just want her to be a bit more credible, like she was in the past. And no more 'hot & current" producers! Go back to the awesome, obscure producers who have helped her make amazing music.
