  • @DuudeRJ You are right but there is also something else you need to take into account. You see them pointing, slowly, steadily, focusing? Well that same patience is what they use when they are around children and thought to have manners around them. It is really a question of how you raise and socialise your dog. Most hunting dogs can be really caring and patient.

And they are only hyper if they don't get enough exercise. I do not recommend them to people not willing to play a few hours a day.

  • @Fodigity726 She didn't mean in a temperament way like they will bite your kids she is saying they are so hyper they don't focus on what is around them and they can knock your child down if they are hyper and want to play. I have a Border Collie/Pointer mix and I understand what she is saying my dog has knocked me on my ass a few times and I am 20

  • When I was little, I had a friend whose family had a GSP named Inca and whenever it was time for her to go home, her mom would send the dog out to get her, and he would find us wherever we were playing. Sometimes her mom would just put a note under the dog's collar with updates about dinner and such. Inca was so cool.

  • Someone I knew used to have one of these. I would walk it often when I went to visit my horses. Nice dog, but it always had birds on the brain. I really wouldn't get one of these unless you intend to hunt with it because it might drive you nuts otherwise. Unless it is really trained, it will go after small animals that you don't want it to like cats and chickens. Luckily the one I used to know is now with an owner that will use it for hunting.

  • I had one from 4-16. They are amazing dogs, and great with children. They don't knock them over. My dog would let children pull her ears or pour soda on her and just tolerate it. Somehow, she knew they were children and to be tolerated or ignored. She even slept under my sister's crib when she was an infant and would growl at anyone approaching who wasn't family. They also recognize other animals like cats as pets and leave them alone. These dogs are so sweet and loyal, it's incredible.

  • I had one from when I was 6 to 17. She was the most incredible dog!!

We had to put her down yesterday

  • These dogs are very good with young children they will not knock them over as the lady says. If you have a dog that is boisterous in the house then you need to exercise it more. A one mile walk a day is no good with this breed. they need to run and the further the better. Think before you get a dog, what do you want it for and get a dog to suit. The German pointer is a hunting dog. If you deny any breed of dog from doing what comes naturally to them, then any bad behavior is your own fault.

  • I have 3 of them and have raised them for the past 34 years, but I have never bred them and most of the ones I have had have been rescues. I disagree about having them around small children. I have had them since before my children were born and now with grandchildren and they are factastic with them all.

  • I HAVEE ONE IN INDIA :D

  • My Cousin Has One!, HE'S THE BEST!!!, ive played with him for hours, he's never snapped, or barked at me!, he is one of the BEST Dogs Ive ever SEEN!
