Cessna 172 flight HD wing cam.mp4

Taking my girlfriend for a flight on a sunny day with a Cessna 172. We flew for 45 minutes from Lelystad airfield, The Netherlands.

This video is actually my first test of the GoPro HD Hero camera outside the aircraft. It is attached underneath the wing with the suction cup mount deliverd by GoPro. Although the highest speed during this flight was about 120 knots, 216km/h, the suction cup did not fall off!

I think the result is pretty cool!

Unfortunately you see the lens become fogged on the end of the flight. This was probably caused by the cold air outside cooling down the relatively warm air inside the case. For this movie I used the waterproof case so there was no ventilation. I shall see what I can do to prefent this next flight.

No I secured it with an extra rope. But the mount is rock solid so it was not necessary.

Do you know if you need an STC for a gopro?

If you use the open back on the housing instead of the underwater backing that will take care of the hazing problem at the end of the video. The problem is the air is trapped inside the housing and condenses with the temp change. The open back allows the flow of air and stays clear. I have several videos and, like you, learned through trial and error. Great perspective though, ill definately use this camera angle. Keep flying!

weren't you scared it would fall off?!, i wanna buy that GoPro cam just to shoot these types of shots, but stressed out it would fall off! lol
