This kinda reminds me of John Watson.

@CancionDesperada You are referring to reader-response theory. I apply this when I don't have much respect for the artist. This idea originated in Sweden as a result of what I think was some poor writing. I feel like I want to give Metric the benefit of the doubt and assume that their intent is worth getting at with some analysis. But I understand what you mean and that is of course a valid way of looking at it. (it has a name, must be legit huh?)

@ShadowChancellor I agree with you that there is one intended meaning that the author means to infer to the audience. However, logical process can only be understood through an individuals experience, knowledge, and understanding. To assume that a person who experiences a work of art differently than the authors intended interpretation is workings outside of the confines of logical process is flawed, rather their interpretation is incorrect in terms of original intent.

THIS SONG REMINDS ME OF LOST!!!

@Briar2cute24 While I hate to disagree with you on the off chance that you are offended, I do not believe that all aspects of art are open to interpretation. Any person who works within the confines of a logical process should arrive at the same or at the very least a similar interpretation of a piece. Every author has an intent. Interpretation is the art of discovering that intent, not projecting your own upon it (as fun as that may be).

oh so its YOUR music well gee sorry i didnt know u composed this song, but i actually agree with you about the art thing soooo....i apologize SandwichTits , clearly i didnt pay attention to what i wrote

@zenixification oh no someone thinks their opinion matters even though it's the dumbest thing any of us have ever heard. someone quick call the police.
-
@Zenixification I'd prefer if you didn't contaminate my music with that kind of stupidity.

@Zenixification Excuse you? I'm sorry, but that's utterly ridiculous. Are you actually trying to say that unless I completely agree with your opinion, I can't appreciate music at all? A song is a piece of art; it's open to interpretation by anyone who listens to it, as are books to anyone who reads them. While I respect your opinion on the matter, I don't respect hearing that people can't appreciate art (of all things) just because they don't think the same way you do. I'd prefer if you didn't
I really really want them to use this for the Hunger Games movie. It fits it so much.

I believe this song is about Emily who has been living a privileged life, but she still isn't happy. Then she came to the realization that other people or the survivors are celebrating the fact they are still alive. Saying she never asked for her life but the world won't let her leave... she is tired of living and the survivors truly appreciate their lives. She would rather sacrifice her life for theirs. Really sad... yet beautiful.
