David Ogilvy and Agency Ogilvy & Mather

Regarded as one of the fathers of modern advertising, David Ogilvy was one of the first great thinkers on developing brands and creating brand awareness.

Born in West Horsley, England, in 1911
Educated in Edinburgh and Oxford

He worked in the kitchen of the Hotel Majestic in Paris as a chef, later farmed with the Amish after immigrating to the US. In 1948 he founded his New York-based agency, now known as Ogilvy & Mather.

Along the way he wrote a number of books including the best seller 'Confessions of an Advertising Man' He is also famous for his many quotes including: "The consumer is not a moron. She is your wife." "You can't bore anyone into buying your product." He "retired"; to Touffou, a 14th century chateau in France, in 1973, and died in 1999. O&M currently employs over 10,000 people in 90 countries.
