Kahiko style is the ancient style of dance, modern style is not a moving in my opinion.

Such a strong dance. Is perfect for Goddess of Fire, beautiful yet fierce and strong.

Just beautiful... mahalo.
This ceremony happens once a year, the last Saturday in August, at the Halema'uma 'u overlook at Kiluaea on the Big Island. In 2007, it was August 25. The Hula you see here is traditional with native dress and regalia, not the typical showtime Hula seen at hotels. Note: the dancers are barefooted on very abrasive volcanic gravel. The ceremony ended with the dancers offering their headdresses, to Pele' Goddess of Fire, over the rim of the caldera.
Excellence at its best.
Aloha
