Metro bus line #686 is always empty(also line 780) and keep running more than every 30 mins. I don't know why Metro wants this line keep running without passengers. What they should do is switch to smeller fleets and run every 60 mins instead of every 30 mins.

  • This line was never heavy,I drove the 686 for a short time, you may not pick up that many people, but, the ridership warrants continuing the like, otherwise it would be cut, trust me,metro does not hesitate to cut service..

  • Pasadena ARTS can handle the same line with their own tiny buses.

  • I just wanted to comment about how people post about bad LA bus service. I was born and raised in LA, and never had a problem. I moved to Vegas in 97, and now I use the bus system here. When buses are late, they're late: nothing you can do about it, you should've left earlier. If buses seem empty, they're still picking people up. It seems like people in LA want buses to be at full capacity so that they can complain about that too. Like I tell people here, you don't like it: don't ride the bus.

  • Dont dis the 686 thats one of my home lines and is very useful around Pasadena. If it were the 401 and 483 left intact like we used to have they would be full but everyone is forced to the Gold Line.

  • As a passenger I need this bus .. they are already over 40 min apart! And only 2 buses on this line

  • You do know that Pasadena is the terminus for these bus routes (which are super long), the nature of long bus routes in Los Angeles is to get light toward the end if the destination isn't a huge one. The 780 goes all the way to my area (Fairfax at Washington) in Culver City, in the course of the trip the bus loads up to a standing load and empties out a few times over as it hits Glendale, Eagle Rock, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Melrose, Mid City West, then Mid CIty/ Culver City area.

  • @topper2142 It's the same in Britain. Public money is used to subsidise bus companies to the tune of billions of pounds every year.

  • Smaller buses, yes. Reduced frequency? I'm not so sure.

  • Meanwhile the 603 (Glendale -- LA) line runs the mini-buses and is usually jam packed consistently. Go figure.

  • Well..being as that transportation funding has been completely cut in California,I would expect these lines to be cut later this year,I would assume that pasadena arts would pick it up.One of the major factors is of course money, and operating cost's,which pasadena arts has less overhead..

  • The good thing about transit in LA is that people have many transit agencies to choose from. Competition is good in some ways.
