Black Kingdoms of the Nile

Gates embarks on an epic journey through Egypt and Sudan in search of ancient Nubia -- an ancient African civilization which once rivaled Egypt. Pyramids, ruined temples and royal tombs survive the deserts of Sudan. And along the Nile lie the ruins of an ancient Nubian capital the oldest city so far uncovered in the whole of Africa.

The Swahili Coast

Gates travels along the palm-fringed coast of Kenya and Tanzania and on to the legendary island of Zanzibar. The journey presents an intriguing historical puzzle: Who are the Swahili people? Are they Truly African? On the idyllic island of Lamu, Gates finds people proud of their Arab ancestry only, believing their civilization owes little to Africa. On Zanzibar, two encounters -- one with the Canon of the Anglican Cathedral and the other with a black descendant of Zanzibar's most notorious slave traders -- give him an insight into the Swahilis' troubled and bloody history.

am an african who is raised in holland and must say that your comment is very true. colonialism/ slavery has left many deep scars in the psyche of people of african descent and one of them is unfortunately self- loathing.

  • @khepraseti Well, I believe that all that is necessary to get from past generations is their genetic code.

It really doesn't matter who or what or where your ancesters were. Especially if it doesn't help you become a better person.

We are all 99.9% identical. Just a few genetic markers apart.

And digging around our backyard only brings up dust that clouds our present.

Every generation gets smarter, and what you are talking about is backwards thinking. Hate flourished in the past!

  • @BGlimited ALL humanity shares African origin. Modern genetic science tells us this regardless of who cares to believe it.

  • @BrooklyntoBrixton It was Khemetian. "Egypt" is a later Greek name for Khemet. Ancient indigenous PRE-DYNASTIC. Khemetian civilization is believed by some to date back 65,000 years. Nubia is today's Syria, not Egypt. Khemet was a trading partner with Nubia for gold and later ivory Nubia was invaded and conquered during the 18th dynasty, but regained independence during the 20th. There were actually Nubian Pharaohs during the 25th, though some later Pharaohs, like Ramses II, were white.

  • @BGlimited Do you have tangible evidence to support your claim?

By the way who is Dr Muhammad Sven Kalisch ?

  • @98Zai If history=(Time+Space+Event) is pointless in absence of wars or past mistakes can you tell me why it is highly taught in all academics institutions? Do i need war or past mistakes to tell my children who their grand father is (or was)?. Also do i need wars to learn about the evolution of our planet or the development of the internet?.All nations need history to find themselves on a map of human geography dont you?

  • I'm sorry but it seems a bit partial. (but informative nonetheless)

In any case, which colour you have or where you were born are governed by chance. African history is as much my history as a child in china or an african american.

As long as we still have wars and nobody learns from past mistakes, history is pointless.

  • henry is cool
