Lyrics

There ain't nothing
Like the real thing, baby
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing

There ain't nothing
Like the real thing, baby
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing

I see your picture
Hanging on the wall
But it can't sing or come to me
When I call your name
I realize it's just
A picture in a frame

And I read your letter
When you're not here
They don't move me
They don't groove me
Like when I hear your sweet voice
Whispering in my ear

There ain't nothing
Like the real thing, baby
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing

No other sound is quite
The same as your name
No touch can do half as much
To make me feel better

Let's stay together
Together, baby, together, yeah
Together, together

I got some memories to look back on
And though they help when you phone
I'm well aware nothing takes
The place of your being there

There ain't nothing
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing, baby
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing

(Not like the real thing)
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing
(Not like the real thing)
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing
(Not like the real thing)

Oh, oh, there ain't nothing
Like the real thing
(Not like the real thing)
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing

The real, the real
There ain't nothing
Like the real thing
(Not like the real thing)
The real, the real
The real thing

Oh, the real thing
(Not like the real thing)
(Not like the real thing)

  • This is true, Natalie broke Aretha's record at the Grammy's but if you read Aretha's bio and interviews with Natalie Cole, record producers told Natalie to sing like Aretha in "This Will Be". For much of her early work she tried to mimic Aretha because she was the hottest female artist at the time. Natalie later apologized to Aretha for mimicking her sound. But don't take my word for it listen to "This Will Be" and tell me I'm wrong, if you didn't know it was Natalie you'd swear it was Aretha.

  • @apoliticalman i believe she just tried to mimic her technique, but she didnt sound like aretha, as far as voice. i could definitely tell this will be was by natalie, her voice is so much higher n squeeky than arethas.

  • @Leoinsummer HalleluYah!

  • AIN'T NO DOUBT, ARETHA IS THE BEST SINGER EVER. MANY HAVE MIMICED HER SOUND, NOT ONLY NATALIE. ARETHA IS THE ORIGINAL. ARETHA IS THE QUEEN OF ALL MUSIC.

  • search bolder gazet van antwerpen

  • Seeing performances like this really bring home the fact that todays R&B is awful.

  • @dlfunky1 I so agree

  • Wow her voice live sends shivers down your spine the days of REAL singers and REAL singing! I much prefer her version than the marvin gaye; it just has more soul and depth to it.

  • i was a teenager at the time and i remember this discussion - the conclusion was that Natalie did mimic Aretha -- but the thing is that Natalie does have a magic of her own regardless. if not for that drug problem, she wouldve been far more reknown i think

  • The songs Natalie Cole sang was written for Aretha but the Queen turned them both down, so the production team made Natalie sound like the Queen

  • That first note...so beautiful
