If you have a bathroom cabinet full of old medicines, you're not alone. The problem is many people don't know how to get rid of them in an environmentally safe way. The wrong way is to flush them down the toilet or wash them down the drain. Chemicals from medicines disposed that way can end up in the Bay where they harm fish and other marine wildlife.
Some drug stores now offer pharmaceutical waste take back programs on special event days or year 'round. Check with your local pharmacy for more information.
I think they're recycling the pills! Either that or it's just a campaign to make the pharmaceutical CRIMINALS look philanthropic!!!

Expired and unused medications have been reported in the aquifer in almost all states. Bringing them back to your pharmacist can allow for incineration, a safe non polluting way of eliminating medications. Also, expired medications can be used as alternative fuels. Covanta runs 30 plants that use expired medications as fuel and produces cheap electricity all over the Western US. See video response above.
