Italy - Cesena, 25 - 26 september 2010
Woodstock 5 Stelle

Woodstock, yesterday, today, tomorrow ...

"There were so many of us there at Cesena. The children were playing close to the stage, there was a cleanliness in the air, in the faces, in the great big meadow, that already fills me with nostalgia. It was a sweet earthquake that will be slowly, slowly understood. With time. Its vibrations will arrive like circles on water even for those who were not present, carried by the words of those who were present at "Woodstock 5 Stelle" {5 Star Woodstock}. It's strange to think that Italy could always be like it was on Saturday and Sunday, with people that felt like brothers and sisters, talking about the future and creating the future with actions, with differentiated collection of waste, water that's public and free, participation in the construction of a common social project.
On stage on Saturday evening, Dario Fo pointed at the moon, nearly full, that finally came out from behind the clouds. The sky was getting brighter after alternate days of wind and rain. Then everyone looked at the sky and they felt happy to be together in a night of tents, of campers, of sleeping bags, of smiles. People were breathing happiness and safety, that safety in others, whoever the others are, who , even though you've never seen them before, even if they are from another region, you recognise them as your brother, friend, travelling companion in your life.
On Sunday morning I walked around the park between hundreds of tents, in the hippodrome full of campers and I saw with my own eyes a great lesson in civility. No one was out of position, no one was shouting, raising their voice, and on the ground, not even a bottle, a packet of cigarettes, a scrap of waste of any type, nothing of nothing. Hundreds of volunteers available to give a hand or a bit of information.
Perfect organisation, self-financed, with artistes that were performing without asking the 5 Star MoVement for any payment and who, for this reason will be blacklisted by the System.
On Sunday 120,000 people, one close to the other, for 14 hours of non-stop music and future, they lifted up into the air like a Great Spirit. The sky seemed as though it were painted by Raphael. Throughout the world, on the Internet, from Sydney to Buenos Aires, from Tokyo to London, about 5 million people followed the two days of Woodstock. The greatest Internet participation in Italy ever, massive numbers. The silence of the media and the declarations of those "maintained" by politics, gave me pleasure, they confirm what they are and even what they will never be: free men, alive. Good morning Cesena! It was beautiful, really beautiful, as Italy will be tomorrow. "
