United Nations, New York, June 2009 - Afghanistan has some of the worst rates of maternal mortality in the world. Women still have problems accessing adequate healthcare. A new initiative enlists religious leaders to protect women's rights and health.

  • will the religious leader ( Mulla) allow women to maintain their rights? They are using Religion as tool. Mullahs always misinterpret Islam and support men controlling over the women.

  • I'm going to come across as pessimistic:

    Weren't "religious values", initially used to throw away women's rights? It seems so subjective, some say women get more rights, some say no...

  • Are some muslims leaving the 7th century?

  • This will be a definite step forward for these women, if this is followed.

    Also, I think it was smart to use material they hold in high regard n' not just use a basis of ethnocentrism. It shows relativism to their culture.
