@thombombb well technically Mel Tillis wrote "ruby dont take your love to town" letting them both record and sing it, many people dont know this so dont get so hot and bothered, the songs and all covers are great (yeah this post is two years old, but wanted everyone to realize this!)

Kenny Rogers did not record the original. The version by Rogers and The First Edition was released in 1969, two years after the ORIGINAL recording by Johnny Darrell.
Next time, don't get so indignant about these covers, when the version you adore is just the same.
