That's a good analogy. I guess whenever I work on new poly-rhythm stuff, I usually write them down and see exactly how each rhythm plays against each other.. you can usually set "landmarks" on the way. i.e if you are playing dotted quarters against quarter note in 4/4 you will be on the beat on beat 4 and beat 3 of the 2nd measure..etc. You can do that with triplets, quintuplets.. the possibilities are limitless

@sweetoldetc My old drum teacher and I got pretty into this, he has the best analogy! The multiple time signatures work like cogs or gears, say one with 3 teeth and one with 4 (a 3 over 4 beat). And they always come back to the beginning when you multiply them, eg 3X4=12, so the 13th bar becomes the new '1'! So cool!!
