The song title -IGY- refers to the International Geophysical Year, 1957-58.
Even in the 80's, people were looking back to an earlier time when things were "better".
Today US politics are more corrupt than they've ever been in my lifetime, but **not** more corrupt than they've ever been. But don't whine, roll up your sleeves & get to work making it better. It will take your whole life to get it done, so better start now.

@twistylikethat it wasn't just better, it was a heck of a lot simpler and NOT near as much stupidity was as widespread as it is today, not only that, common sense also had a place in the role of life as well, unlike it has today where it has been entirely evaded. Just too bad that this song could not apply to the present and current society.

@tremayne3 I think its because I only uploaded about a year ago and WMG arn't too fond of people uploading their donald fagen material, it is in their ownership. If it was up say 5 years old I think over 1 million views for this.
