It's unfortunate that hip-hop and its attendant variants have become so dominant. I'm not going to claim that hip-hop isn't proper music, but, well, I do consider it LESSER music. It's less complex in terms of melody, harmony, counterpoint, structure. It's more lowest common denominator stuff, all energy and attitude, but little subtlety, melancholy or beauty. My opinion.
