  • Your videos are helpful to a beginner like me... but where can I actually LEARN bass? My fingers can't move fast enough and it's getting really frustrating! I've taken lessons and I know the basics like this, but I can no longer afford lessons, and I'm in need for some actual learning... I've skimmed through your videos and most are techniques I already know. I know music, I've been playin bass themed insturments for 5 years, but it seems so frustrating that I suck so badly!!!

  • learn how to cover 1 or 2 songs exactly. Be right on with timing and notes to them. Pick something you would really like to learn. Then when you can play the song great to the mp3. Then play the song just to a click track. When it is just your bass try to make the lines groove when you are all by yourself. Maybe by just playing louder (called a pulse) on 1 and 3. Or whatever feels right. That will really let you get a fel what bass is all about.

  • is the pinkie ever used in picking or no?

  • There are a few techniques that use the right hand pinkie. But I would tell anyone to use 3 finger picking and not do 4 with the pinkie. But if you look into classical guitar/ Hispanic styles/ uke playing, you will find alot of right hand techniques that use all 4 fingers. Yes you can play the bass even like a banjo.

  • depends on the genre(s) of music that you'll be playing. for example if you're gonna be playing generic rock music that you would hear on the radio, you shouldn't have a hard time learning and there probably wont be any chords, but if you're playing metal, jazz, funk, classical, etc. there will be more frequent use of chords and it may be more difficult to learn. as a general rule it's easier to learn the BASICS of playing bass as opposed to piano for example. mastering it is a different story.

  • Hi Marcus,

Great video, I am thinking of learning to play the bass, I already play drums a bit is bass easy to learn and do you play chords with a bass.

My son is learning to play guitar and already knows a couple of chords.

I feel like a idiot wanting to learn to play the bass at 43 years of age but your videos make it look easier to learn.
