Actually, as with most Roma songs, it can be played both elegic (as known from the Time Of Gypsies) and lively, energetic. If you listen to Roma brass bands you can meet in lot of places in Balkans you will hear live and energetic version of the song, not the better known slow and elegic version.
And the song is about Ederlezi day that Roma celebrate as coming of spring, so it's a celebration of life. There's nothing wrong with dancing on the tables with this song.
